Shitakes originate in Japan. Shi, is a tree related to the Oak family, take means mushroom. It was traditionally grown on Oak trunks or logs. Shitake is the most popular mushroom in the Far East and has become increasingly popular in the West in recent years.
Shitake contains iron, nutritional fibers, and vitamins.
The Shitake has been the subject of many on-going medical researches exploring its' anti-cancerous properties.
